About Us
At Solstice Woodcraft, wood is more than the material we work with—it is part of who we are. You might say our wood is so good, it is even in our name: Netherwood—and in both of our family histories.
The surname Netherwood is an Anglo-Scottish medieval locational or topographic name, traditionally referring to someone who lived near a “lower wood.” For Neal and Jen, that connection feels especially fitting. Both come from families that respected wood, admired its natural beauty, and made their living working with it.
Neal Netherwood began working with wood at a young age, inspired by his grandfather. Over the years, Neal worked as a carpenter and general contractor, learning under the guidance of skilled mentors and building a deep respect for quality workmanship. Owning a woodshop and creating fine handcrafted furniture and wood products has always been his dream.
Jen Netherwood’s connection to lumber began at Cobb Lumber, her family’s lumber company. Her grandfather purchased the business after World War II, and it was later passed down to her father, then her brother. Growing up around the lumber industry gave Jen an appreciation for the journey every board takes—from forest and mill to a finished piece.
Today, we are grateful to work together as a husband-and-wife team. Neal is the purveyor, sawyer, creator, and artist behind Solstice Woodcraft. Jen keeps the books in order, helps shape the marketing, and is always looking for fresh ideas and new ways to share our work.
Thank you for stopping by and for supporting a small, local, and veteran-owned business. We truly appreciate you!
